Pancake day

We had a great time experiencing Shrove Tuesday. First we visited church for a service led by Rev Goggin who talked about pancake day and Lent. Later at school we explored the history of pancake day and how it originated as a means of Christians using up any food before they commenced Lent as they remembered Jesus and the 40 days he spent in the desert. We discussed the differences between what pancake day would have been like many years ago compared to today, with pancakes seen as more of a luxury with toppings such as chocolate.
