We Will Remember

Date: 8th Sep 2018 @ 11:22am

On Friday, KS2 enjoyed a superb day of drama to launch our topic 'We will Remember'.

We started by looking at a range of artefacts from the past. We had the chance to explore toys, post cards, stamps, uniforms, bottles, coins and photographs to help us delve into our topic and develop our investigative skills. As historians, we were able to deduct and infer where people came from, what they did and who the artefacts were for.

In the afternoon, we looked into the people involved in World War I. We looked at the different uniforms of the armed forces and what we could tell about the people from the clothes they wore. We then had the opportunity to think about trench warfare in our very own trenches in the woodland. They became soldiers on opposing sides, experienced different soldier's roles and even some injuries. Some children also had the chance to think about soldier's rationing and taste typical food such as lime juice, porridge and even corned beef. The reactions were mixed but definitely extreme!

The children were hooked throughout, showed incredible sensitivity to the people we were thinking about and were thrilled to be able to enjoy the exciting activities.
