Reception 2017 - 2018

Mrs Allen

Mrs Allen is our reception teacher. Mrs Allen provides outstanding support for the children in her class and throughout the school. She is also the Deputy Child Protection Officer.

Well done again to all the children for settling so well into school. We now move into our second term at school and with this a new topic. This term we will initially be using the story of The Jolly Postman by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. In preparation for this the classroom has been moved around to make room for our very own Post Office. The children will have the opportunity to wrap, weigh and pay for their parcels alongside writing their own letters and envelopes. I am also hoping to incorporate a walk to our local post box near the church to post some of our letters.

Travelling Ted will continue to visit the children’s houses before he heads off home back to London. Thank you again to everyone who has taken part in this already. The children have really enjoyed sharing with the rest of the class on a Monday what exciting adventures they have been on with him. If he hasn’t visited you yet, then he will be on his way soon!!

As we look further ahead we have our bible giving service on Thursday 16th November which you are all warmly invited too. We also have our stay and play session on Wednesday 22nd November where you will be able to join in with one of our phonics lessons!

Early Years Foundation Stage Overview

At Warmingham CE Primary we follow the curriculum guidelines set out in the revised Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which was implemented in September 2012 and updated in September 2014.

The main principles on which the EYFS is based are grouped into four main themes-
A Unique Child, Positive Relationships, Enabling Environments and Learning & Development

A Unique Child – every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self assured.

Positive Relationships – Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.

Enabling Environments – Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners, parents and carers.

Learning & Development – Children develop and learn in different ways. The framework covers the education and care of all children in early years provision including children with special educational needs and disabilities.

There are three prime areas and four specific areas of Learning & Development:
Prime Areas:
Personal, Social & Emotional Development, Communication & Language and Physical Development

Personal, Social & Emotional Development – Our programme supports children to develop relationships, to develop their self confidence and self awareness and to manage their feelings and behaviour.

Communication & Language – We support children in their listening and attention skills, in their understanding and in their speaking.

Physical Development – We support children to grow more confident in moving and handling, and to develop their awareness of health and self-care.

Specific Areas:

Literacy, Maths, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts & Design

Literacy – We support children in their early reading and writing.

Maths – We support children’s learning in the fields of numbers, shape, space and measure.

Understanding the World – We support children’s learning about people and communities, the world and technology.

Expressive Arts & Design – We support children’s learning by exploring and using media and materials and by being imaginative.
