Home Learning Expectations
Reading – The children will bring home a reading book each week which they should read at home to an adult at least 3 times a week. Please record their reading in their reading records. We will change these books twice a week. In addition, all the children will choose a storybook from our class library which they can bring home to enjoy sharing with you.
Phonics – The children will bring home a phonics task to complete each week, these will be based on the sound or spelling pattern we have learnt that week.
Spelling - The spellings for the half term will be in the yellow learning journals. The spellings for each week will be a combination of words from the Year 1/2 Word Lists or words that include the spelling pattern or phoneme that we are practising that week.
Maths – Mathletics. Each week the children will be set a task to complete. This is something you should do with them. Talking through the task is an important aspect.
Topic Work – Every child will have a yellow learning journal which will contain a list of tasks they can complete that are linked to their study theme – 'Who am I and How have I changed the World?' There will always be a wide selection of tasks to provide the children with some choice. They should aim to complete 1 per week, although some tasks are bigger projects which may take more time and therefore, there is no expectation that they will complete all of tasks. These should then be brought into school on the last Monday of each half term.
