Our PE and School Sport Journey
Warmingham CE Primary is a small school with a huge passion for PE and school sport. We are dedicated to developing sport and PE in our school and are proud of the inroads we have made since 2012. The attitude in school around that time was that we did not enter sporting competition as we would not win or place, so what was the point. A belief echoed by pupils, staff and parents. This is something we have worked hard to reverse over the last 5 years.
Following a change in mindset all the children at Warmingham participate in variety of competitive and non competitive sport. We encourage all of children to demonstrate the Olympic values and qualities of Friendship, Respect and Excellence along with the four Paralympic values of Determination, Inspiration, Courage and Equality. Sportsmanship behaviour is expected from everyone.
We now take part in 3 levels of sport at Warmingham; intra school, cluster schools and inter schools (cheshire county). Alongside these we also take all of our children to a number of festival events. The love of sport through school is embedded in a number of ways including the strong emphasis on outstanding coaching of PE, mini leaders who work hard to promote school sport (Sports Captains and Play Leaders), focused effort on swimming to ensure that all KS2 learn to swim, and dedication to ensure that everyone participates no matter what their age, ability or gender.
All activities are closely monitored and coverage of objectives are linked to the curriculum. Now that all children are involved and enthused by school sport and physical activity we are able to send children to participate in competivie events all year round and target those less active children to ensure health and fitness for all. The impact on sport and physical education at our school has been huge, and we see it as a key strength and something that we work hard to continue to develop and grow.
Through our strong partnerships with Sports Coaching North West (SCNW) and Middlewich Sports Partnership (MSP) we have been able to provide a wealth of sporting experiences for all our children. We have been able to introduce them to new sports and even encouraged them to continue them out side of school hours. Many following and achieving high accalades in the sporting society.
Ross Kesteven (Director SCNW) is our designated school PE co-ordinator and assists the school in organising events and timetabling PE to ensure depth and breadth of the sporting curriculum.
