What Does 'Let Your Light Shine' mean to us at Warmingham?
At Warmingham CE Primary School, Let your light shine is at the heart of who we are and how we live and learn together.
These words come from Jesus’ teaching in the Sermon on the Mount, found in the Gospel of Matthew. After sharing the Beatitudes, Jesus says:
'You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden…
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.'
(Matthew 5:14–16)
Following Jesus’ Example
As a Christian school family, we believe that Jesus shows us how to live well. When Jesus says 'I am the light of the world' (John 8:12), he is reminding us that God’s love, truth and hope bring light into dark places. When Jesus then tells us 'you are the light of the world', he is telling us that his light can shine through us.

At Warmingham, letting our light shine means trying to live as Jesus lived:
- Showing love and kindness
- Choosing forgiveness and honesty
- Standing up for what is right
- Caring for others
- Doing our best, even when it is hard
Our actions matter. Through our words and deeds, we can help make the world a brighter, kinder and more hopeful place.
Turning Towards the Light
Letting our light shine is not only about what we give to others. It is also about where we turn when life feels difficult.
Just like a lighthouse, Jesus’ light helps to guide us when we feel lost, worried or unsure. A lighthouse does not remove the storm, but it helps people find safety and direction. In the same way, when times are challenging, we encourage our children and adults to turn towards the light of Jesus, trusting that he is with us and will help lead the way.
This is why the song My Lighthouse means so much to us as a school community. It reminds us that Jesus is faithful, steady and guiding – especially when we need him most.
Being Beacons of Light
We want Warmingham CE Primary School and our church community to be beacons of light – places where people feel safe, welcomed, valued and inspired. Through our work, our learning, our play and our rest, we aim to shine the light of Jesus far beyond the school gates.
By learning about Christian values, listening to the teachings of Jesus and following his example, we encourage every member of our community to ask:
- How can I let my light shine today?
- How can I bring light into someone else’s life?

Being the Best We Can Be – For Ourselves and Others
At Warmingham, we believe that everyone can shine. Every child and every adult is precious in God’s eyes, with unique gifts and talents to share. We nurture these gifts so that each person can grow into the very best version of themselves – the person God created them to be.
We want our children to flourish: to grow in wisdom, knowledge and dignity, to be confident learners, and to aspire to great things. We do not want the brilliant learning, kindness and achievements of our children to be hidden. Instead, we encourage them to shine in their classrooms, in school, at home and in their wider community.
As we live out our Christian values of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self‑control, we hope that light will shine from Warmingham in many ways, every day – for the benefit of all and for the glory of God.
Valuing Our Own Light
Letting our light shine also means recognising our own worth. Jesus reminds us that we are deeply loved. We want children to know that their light matters – not just to others, but to themselves.
We encourage our children to:
- Be proud of their achievements
- Respect and value themselves
- Develop resilience and a Growth Mindset
- Face the future with hope and confidence
A light should not be hidden under a bowl. It is meant to shine – helping others and lighting the way for ourselves too.
