Nursery Applications
Choosing early years provision for your child is an important and very personal decision. At Warmingham CE Primary School, our Nursery offers a nurturing, school‑based start to education, rooted in our Christian values and designed to help children grow in confidence, independence and emotional security.
Our Nursery provides children with the opportunity to begin their learning journey within the familiar environment of school, supported by trusted adults and clear routines, before moving smoothly into Reception.
Our Nursery Provision
Warmingham Nursery is for rising four‑year‑olds – children who turn four during their nursery year with us (1 September to 31 August).
This approach allows children to benefit from a full year of age‑appropriate nursery provision, helping them to develop the skills, confidence and readiness they need for Reception.
A key strength of our nursery is that it is a school‑based setting, led by a qualified teacher and supported by an experienced Early Years teaching assistant. This ensures high‑quality early learning while maintaining the care, warmth and play‑based approach that young children need.
Staffing and Care
Children in our Nursery are supported by:
A qualified teacher
An additional EYFS teaching assistant, providing two adults in the room
We also have established changing facilities on site. Children who require nappies or pull‑ups are supported sensitively through individual intimate care plans, agreed with parents.
Learning and the School Environment
Nursery and Reception children learn together as part of one class community in Otters Class, giving children the very best possible start to school life. This mixed‑age model allows younger children to learn alongside older peers, while Reception children develop confidence, responsibility and leadership skills.
There are times when Nursery and Reception children are taught separately, for example for phonics, early maths, reading and writing, ensuring teaching is carefully matched to each child’s stage of development.
At other times, children learn together through continuous provision, where high‑quality play supports exploration, independence, language development and social skills.
Learning together within one class, supported by familiar adults and routines, helps children feel secure, confident and ready to thrive as they move through Nursery and into Reception.
Continuity and Transitions
Transitions can be challenging for young children, even when carefully managed. By beginning their journey in our Nursery, children benefit from:
A consistent environment
Familiar adults and routines
A gradual and secure transition into Reception
This continuity supports children’s emotional wellbeing and confidence, helping them feel safe, settled and ready to learn as they move through their early years.
Nursery Places and Reception Applications
There are a range of early years options available to families, including school nurseries, childminders, pre‑schools and day nurseries. While all follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, each offers a different experience.
Parents should be aware that a place in our Nursery does not guarantee a place in Reception. Families must still apply separately for a Reception place through the Local Authority when the time comes.
