Remote Learning

A Caring Christian Family Where We Grow Together
Let Your Light Shine ~ Matthew 5:16

Our Approach to Remote Learning:

Our priority is always for children to attend school in person, as this best supports learning, wellbeing and social development. However, there may be occasions when remote learning is necessary.

In line with Department for Education (DfE) guidance, remote education is used only when attendance at school is not possible, and children are well enough to continue learning at home.

Remote learning is not intended to replace classroom teaching and will be provided only for as long as it is required.

Level 1 Remote Learning:

Level 1 remote learning may be offered when a child is unable to attend school for a short period of time due to illness or recovery (for example, following an operation) but is well enough to learn.

There is no expectation for children to complete remote learning if they are unwell.

Remote learning is not provided as an alternative to attendance during term‑time holidays.   In these cases, families may choose to support their child with reading or practice activities, but this does not form part of the school’s remote education provision.

Children may be directed to familiar resources, including:

  • Magma Maths
  • Times Tables Rock Stars (Year 2 and above)
  • Daily reading (all year groups)
  • Homework journal tasks (all year groups)
Additional work can be provided on request and will be proportionate to the length of absence.

Recording Work

Any work completed as part of Level 1 remote learning can be recorded in the child’s yellow homework journal.

Level 2 Remote Learning

Level 2 remote learning will be implemented only when it is not possible for children to attend school in person but they are well enough to continue their learning.

This may include:

  • Closure of a class – remote learning will be provided for the affected class
  • Whole-school closure – remote learning will be provided for all pupils

We recognise that attending school in person is always best for children, and remote learning will be used only when necessary and for as short a time as possible.

During Level 2 remote learning, work and communication will be shared through Google Classroom.   Where needed, work may initially be emailed home to ensure learning can begin promptly.

Our remote learning provision will include:

  • Daily live teaching sessions for Maths and English (including phonics) delivered via Google Meet
  • A mix of teacher-led input, independent learning tasks, and time for children to ask questions or receive guidance
  • A weekly learning plan outlining learning across all subjects
  • Resources that support children’s wellbeing and mental health, recognising the importance of staying connected and supported

All lessons, tasks, and resources will be uploaded to Google Classroom so that families can access them easily.

Learning, support and feedback:

After each live session, children will be set learning activities to complete independently. During this time, the teacher will remain online to offer support or clarification if needed.

Completed work will be reviewed by staff and individual feedback will be provided to support children’s progress.

Learning will be adapted where appropriate to support children with SEND, ensuring that all pupils are able to engage successfully with remote learning.

There is no expecatation for children to join th eonline lessons or complete work if they are unwell.

Attendance, wellbeing and expectations:

  • There is no expectation for children to join online lessons or complete work if they are unwell.
  • Children accessing Level 2 remote learning will continue to be marked as absent from school, in line with national attendance guidance.  Please be reassured that a specific attendance code is used to show that pupils were learning remotely as a result of a class or whole-school closure.
  • Safeguarding remains a priority, and all online learning will follow the school’s safeguarding, online safety, and acceptable use policies.
