Squirrels' Stone Age Music
Lesson: Music
Class: Squirrels (Year 3/4) Year: 2025 - 2026
Squirrels' Class have been bringing history to life through music! They created their own Stone Age rap, using rhythm and rhyme to retell what they’ve learned about prehistoric life. They also experimented with sound by composing a Stone Age rhythm piece using real stones, exploring how early humans might have made music with natural materials.
As part of their learning, the children researched prehistoric music, discovering how ancient people used simple tools and everyday objects to create rhythm and melody. They even learned about the Hurrian Hymn, one of the earliest known written pieces of music from over 3,000 years ago. Inspired by this, they explored how music has evolved from simple percussive sounds to more structured compositions.
