Bird Boxes for the King's Coronation

Date: 30th Apr 2023 @ 9:41pm

King Charles is passionate about our environment. We share his passion, and to commemorate King Charles’ Coronation we are going to be working on some projects which will encourage more wildlife into our grounds.

Badgers’ Class have started making some bird boxes for the woodland area. They have decorated them with paintings of flowers, bees, butterflies and ladybirds inspired by the official coronation invitation which was created by Andrew Jamieson.

Once they were dry, we varnished the pieces of wood before hammering them together to create the bird house.

There was lots of chocolate tasting along the way too! Then, we had the opportunity to create our own chocolate bar.

Otters as artists

Date: 4th Jan 2023 @ 7:19pm

Otters class have been progressing their fine motor skills as artists today. We looked at the self portraits we had drawn at the beginning of Autumn Term and discussed how we could improve on them to make this terms self portraits even better. We thought about including more detail such as eye lashes and eyebrows and the types of shapes our features needed to be alongside sizing and placement of our key facial features.

After we had finished, we put our first picture next to our new one and decided on how our added details had improved our pictures.

Otters Wow starter Spring Term

Date: 4th Jan 2023 @ 7:14pm

Otters have had a wonderful start back to school. They were all very excited to share their Christmas news, then we had our wonderful ’Wow starter’ from Zoo2U. We learnt all about African land snails from the jungle. Tenrecs from Madagascar who are interestingly related to elephants not hedgehogs as we had first thought. Then we met Boris, a bearded dragon from Australia whose beard turns black when he’s scared. We also saw Herbert a horse field tortoise from Russia who has notches on his shells called scoots and learnt that they live for 50-60 years. Lastly, we met a northern striped skunk from North America who was very excited to meet us on his first school outing.

Hedgehogs' Wow Starter_Spring Term

Date: 3rd Jan 2023 @ 9:03pm

Our Wow Starter for our Minibeasts Study Theme

We began our new study theme searching for minibeasts in our woodland.  We found worms, spiders, a centipede and a woodlouse.  But then came Dave...

Dave brought a whole host of minibeasts for a truly 'creepy crawly' show.  We met Charlie the Hissing Cocroach; Millie, the Giant African Millipede; Rosie the Chile Rose Tarantula; Finando the Black Beauty Stick Insect and Pricilla the Flat Rock Scorpian.  They were all very sociable.  We even 'high fived' the tarantula and shock hands with the scorpian!

We later met some animals which like to eat the minibeasts, like Leonardo de Geko the Geko, Hooter the Barn Owl and Tina the Tenrec.

Finally we met some animals further up the food chain - some snakes.

We throroughly enjoyed our visitors today and are looking forward to learning lots more about these amazing creatures.

Hedgehogs' Fantastic Finish - Flying High

Anne Frank - A True Courageous Advocate

Date: 23rd Nov 2022 @ 10:14am

As theologists, Badgers’ Class (Year 5/6) have explored how Anne Frank’s faith helped her see the good in everything around her.

They started by learning about the basic history of the Holocaust before they learnt about the life of the courageous advocate Anne Frank.     After ordering the key events in Anne’s life, they looked at how the Holocaust had an impact of her life.

Afterwards, they looked at some quotes from Anne Frank’s diary, and how her faith helped her to see the good in everything around her, despite what was happening to her and her family.    They then thought carefully about which of our Christian values she was using to help her.    A truly amazing courageous advocate – an inspiration to us all.
